Fenwicks Restaurant

The Edinburgh Food Guide 1999-2009'

Fenwicks is a restaurant I have walked past many times, so I was intrigued to finally step inside. The interior, on two levels, is afforded a faint wiff of class by the preponderance of wood, from floor to panelled walls, and something about the place seemed to facilitate easy, pleasant conversation.

The menu features three courses for £15.95 and to start we picked out a rich, sweet, roasted tomato soup with tantalising pesto croutons and a creamy artichoke and smokey cheese tart on basil and tomato scented leaves. Next up was a chargrilled tuna steak dressed with sundried tomato pesto and some asparagus, herb and mouth-watering field mushroom strudel with sweet pepper coulis. And after an equally pleasing dessert we were happy just to stay on chatting over our coffees.

Eating out is a great idea, and selecting a restaurant is always a difficult choice unless you have your favourites. If you want to try somewhere new then you should look out for restaurant offers they are mostly online and can save you a decent amount of money off your bill or you may get a free starter or bottle of wine to enjoy with your meal. There is no point paying full price for dinner!

Simply Edinburgh and Glasgow, Simply great food and great places to stay. visiting Edinburgh and Glasgow any time of year can be great fun with plenty of things to do and see and if you like food you are in for a treat as there are more restaurants per square mile than any other city in the UK.

One of the most onerous restaurant management tasks is the scheduling of staff. Accommodating shift change requests, time off, illness, etc can be a real pain in the butt. Luckily I found restaurant scheduling software from Victorware that makes this grind of a task a pleasure! It's simple, easy to use and I can send schedules out by email. The best part is you can try it for free before you buy ...

'Edinburgh and Glasgow Eating and Drinking Guide 2009'

At one time somewhat off the beaten track, Edinburgh's Southside is now turning into a real foodie quarter, with longer established restaurants such as Fenwicks having to work hard to please an increasingly demanding clientele - and work they do.

Fenwicks make it all seem so effortlessly simple: good food, opening hours that suit its varied customers, plus an excellently priced and imaginative menu, bring lots of repeat business from local residents and offices. Smart local guesthouses know to send their guests along to Fenwicks too, and its well worth booking ahead even mid week. Lunch dishes come in small plates or large, with prices running from £1.20 for freshly made soup of the day to the most expensive dish, seared salmon loin with nutty couscous and lemon cream at £4.85. The dinner menu is more elaborate and superb value at £16.95 for three courses. Scottish ingredients are given a Mediterranean feel with the escalope of veal coming with proscuitto, parmesan and sage café au lait, or lamb presented as a provencal daube with caraway mash and deep fried leeks. Puddings are all home made and after all that, it's hard to resist taking home Fenwick's fudge, chilli jam or tapenade. Yummy.
